Another win for Cambridge Mosque

Project Name: Cambridge Mosque
Location: Cambridge
Main Contractor: Gilbert Ash
Architect: Marks Barfield

The Cambridge Mosque, completed in 2019, was Europe’s first eco-mosque capable of welcoming 1,000 worshippers from many multi-denominational communities. The mosque features many bespoke elements including the unique corium brick façade with each brick detailed with protruding headers to create geometric Islamic patterns. The corium brick was selected to reflect the local vernacular of Cambridgeshire gault bricks.

The £23m project has won a host of architectural accolades, including Architect’s Journal (AJ) Best Community and Faith Project 2019, the Brick Development Association (BDA) Best Public Building 2019, four Structural Timber Awards 2019 and most recently the RIBA Awards; RIBA East Award 2021, RIBA East Project Architect of the Year 2021, RIBA East Client of the Year 2021 and RIBA East Building of the Year 2021.
